Reading: In reading this week we are continuing our unit: Bigger Books Mean Amping Up Reading Power. This week we will work on understanding literary language. Noticing when the author “plays” with words and focusing on that special language. Which will tie in nicely with our writing unit where we are trying to play with our words in poetry!

Writing: We will be continuing our Poetry unit this week, looking more closely at the words poets use to convey the right meaning and imagery. Students will also be trying to capture mood and feeling within their poems, by using comparisons and figurative language.

Math: This week we are continuing to work on story problems, including two-step problems, and using different strategies to solve the. We will also be taking our end of Unit 4 test, at the end of the week.

Researcher's Workshop: In Researcher’s Workshop this week we will be starting a new unit about the economy. We will start by immersing ourselves in a text set about family structures and how economics play a role.

Word Work: In Unit 9 we will be working with the r-controlled vowels: er, ir, and ur. These are tough because they all sound the same! We will work on recognizing which one looks right to our eyes. And practice a lot of different words.
