Reading:
We will be starting a new unit this week! We will be moving into our new unit called Becoming Experts: Reading Nonfiction. We will start the week by reorganizing our library to find topic bins that we are interested in. Then we will all book shop to find some nonfiction books that we want to read. We will then learn about how nonfiction readers read their books. They notice and learn and then start to ask questions in their reading. We will also ask the important question “What is this book trying to teach me?”

Writing:
This week in writing we are finishing up our narrative unit. We will spend today and tomorrow revising and editing our writing to get it ready to publish. We will celebrate on Wednesday all of our hard work by showcasing our books and opening a “Book Cafe” and opening it up to the school. We will end our week with an on-demand to see all the growth we’ve made in narrative writing.

Math:
In math this week we will continue with expanding our knowledge on place value. We will learn to read and look at numbers to 200 in different ways and practicing writing them in standard form, word form, expanded form, and in quick tens and hundreds.

Researcher’s Workshop:
In researcher’s workshop we begin exploring plant biodiversity and adaptations. This week we will explore how seeds need to travel away from their parent plant in order to survive. We will create a model seed from paper and release these seeds to model how they disperse.

Word Work:
In word work we will continue to working on Unit 2 in Fundations. We will explore vowel teams ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, oi, and oy. We will also review suffixes that we know, and introducing new suffixes that change the meaning of our words (ex. est, er).
