3/9/20

Hello,

Be on the lookout for an invitation to our poetry celebration which will be on Monday 3/16/20 from 8:30-9:00. We will be setting our room up like a poetry cafe and enjoying some hot chocolate if you would like to join us.

Also we are starting to collect the base-runners for the Timber Rattler reading program. When students finish a character they can bring it in for prizes.

Reading: In reading we are finishing our current unit. We will be tackling goals with the help of others. We will be setting goals for ourselves and then organizing into “goal clubs” to help others that set the same goals as us.

Writing: In writing we are wrapping up our poetry unit! Students are learning about different structures they can use to help convey the feeling and mood they want their readers to get. Be on the lookout for an invite to our poetry celebration!

Math: In math this week, we are working on making various types of graphs. Along with creating graphs, students will be learning how to read and interpret what the graphs mean. Students will also be learning how to solve problems using graphs.

Researcher's Workshop: This week in researcher’s workshop we will be applying what we’ve learned about needs versus wants. We will make plans for how we can save money to get things we want or how we could help people in our community get things that they need.

Word Work: In word work we will be starting unit 10. We will be learning a new type of syllable, the double vowel syllable. Which basically is a syllable that includes a vowel team or two vowels next to each other that affects the sound. We will focus on /ai/ and /ay/. Also I will send home the word work packets for unit 9, this is extra practice and does not need to be returned to school.
