Reading:
In reading this week we will be finishing up our quick unit about word solving. We will learn a few more strategies to solve unknown words and tie in how we don’t lose fluency even if we are word solving. We will also learn about partner talk and what that will look like and sound like in 2nd grade.

Writing:
In writing this week, we are continuing to craft small moment stories. While we are exploring and studying the same mentor authors, we are also exploring authors that are important to us personally and trying their craft moves! We also will be consulting with our partners to get feedback on how to make our writing even better. Then we will be preparing for our writing celebration by editing and revising our favorite pieces.

Math:
In math this week we will be wrapping up Unit 1 and making corrections on our first test. We always talk about having a growth mindset that even when we make mistakes it does not mean we cannot do something it means that we tried and can learn from it. So students will have the opportunity to fix up their mistakes and learn from them. We will also start Unit 2 this week. At the start of Unit 2 we will be learning about representing numbers past 100, and talking about place value.

Researcher’s Workshop:
In researcher’s workshop we will brainstorm ideas to share our learning from our unit on animal biodiversity and adaptations. We will end the week with an assessment to check our understanding!

Word Work:
In word work we will continue to  work on blending and reading words with “glued” sounds: all, am, an, ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, and unk. We will also review r-controlled vowels: ar, er, ir, or, and ur. We will take a test of all we have learned in unit 2. At the end of the week, we will begin unit 3 which will have us exploring the following glued sounds: old, ild, ind, olt, and ost. We will also introduce the concept of vowel teams!
