Reading:
In reading this week we will continue our work with nonfiction reading. This week we will talk about how to read nonfiction books. Looking at how the authors organized the information. We will end the week talking about keywords in the books. How readers need to try to understand the meaning of new words.

Writing:
This week in writing we are beginning our unit on informational writing. We are generating book ideas based on topics we are experts on. As we start writing, we are going to explore mentor authors and begin practicing some of their craft moves! Later this week, we will work on hard writing and sharing as much information as we can.

Math:
In math this week we will continue with expanding our knowledge on place value. We will practice adding +1, +10, and +100 using mental math. We also use our knowledge of place value to compare numbers to 200. At the end of the week, we will begin taking a look at double digit addition!

Researcher’s Workshop: In researcher’s workshop we begin exploring plant biodiversity and adaptations. This week we will learn the importance of water (which is taken in by the roots) for plants, and what it is about dirt that plants really need. We will build a Root Viewer to observe a radish seed as it develops roots and we observe it over a few days to see how to changes!

Word Work:
In word work we will begin exploring the concept of a baseword and suffix while practicing with s, es, ing, ed, er, and est. We will talk about how to spell them and how they change the meaning of a word!
