Hello,

QUINNEY/NDLC DECEMBER CARING PROJECT

This year our NDLC and Quinney Council members have chosen to help out military personnel deployed overseas in honor of Adam Hall.  Adam is the husband of Amber Hall, an educational assistant for NDLC and Quinney School.  He is also the father of Oliver, a fourth grade student at Quinney, and Lilah, a second grade student at Quinney School.  Adam’s troop was recently deployed and will be gone for 12-14 months. We are looking for our Quinney and NDLC families to donate personal care items, snacks, or money.  The monetary donations will be used to cover the cost of shipping and to purchase extra supplies. All items should be new and in original packaging.  Thank you in advance for your help in supporting our troops. Reading:
This week in reading we are going to be learning about purposeful partnerships. We are going to do quick jots of: big events, strong reactions, confusing words, favorite parts, and new ideas. Then when they come to partnerships will meet to talk about, story-tell, and act out parts.

Writing:
We will be starting a quick two week unit on grammar. Students will be choosing the type of writing they would like to do and then each day we will learn different rules about grammar and how to make our writing easier to read. This week we will focus on capital letters vs lowercase letters, punctuation, and types of sentences.

Math:
We are continuing our work with measurement and shapes! We will continue exploring, experimenting, labeling, drawing, and measuring quadrilaterals and triangles. Also, we will start looking at cubes and rectangular prisms and counting their faces. Finally, we will practice measuring with a meter tape and graphing our information on a line plot.

Researcher’s Workshop:
We are beginning our new unit on exploring our community and learning about the history and geography of Kaukauna! We will start immersing ourselves in information by exploring photos, maps, and books.

Word Work:
In word work we will review how to read and spell multisyllabic words. We will also learn new suffixes: ful, ment, ness, less, able, en, and ish. We will also look at these new prefixes: mis, un, non, dis, and trans.
