Reading:
This week in reading we will learn how 2nd graders work hard to solve tricky words. We will remind ourselves things we learned in 1st grade and talk about how we use more than one strategy at a time. How words need to make sense and look right to our eyes. We will also learn about beginnings and endings or words and how sometimes in the middle there are vowel teams that we work hard to be flexible with.

Writing:
In writing this week we are starting a new unit called: Learning from the Masters. We talked about how master authors write stories that are meaningful and made an impact in their own lives. We received a tiny topics notepad to record our ideas. We will then work on stretching those meaningful stories and zooming in to the important parts of the story.

Math:
This week in math we are continuing to work on relating subtraction and addition, solving for unknown addends, and solving for unknown totals. We will also dig deep into understanding what the equal sign really means, odd and even numbers, and strategies to solve two, three, and four addend problems.

Researcher’s Workshop:
This week in researchers workshop (our new name for science or social studies) we will be starting our first science unit! Our first topic is Animal Biodiversity. This week we will learn about biodiversity, classification, and patterns with animals. We will also start to talk about habitats and species.
