Reading:
This week in reading we are wrapping up our unit on paying close attention to mentor authors! As we continue to notice how authors use craft moves to share their intentions, we will also explore how authors use those techniques to teach us something. We will end the week with a celebration of all our hard work studying mentor authors and strategies!

Writing:
In writing this week we are continuing to work on telling small moments stories. We are working on finding ways to ‘zoom in’ on our topic and add tiny details. We are using narrative checklists to study our writing and find areas that we want to improve and revise. Also, we are intertwining what we have learned during Reader’s Workshop to discover our intent as writers and communicate that throughout our writing pieces as we craft meaningful stories!

Math:
This week in math we are continuing to work on relating subtraction and addition, solving for unknown addends, and solving for unknown totals. We will continue exploring these concepts while working in word problems. We will practice solving different word problems that have too much, not enough, and hidden information. In addition, we look at complex comparison problems and we will begin exploring two-step word problems.

Researcher’s Workshop:
This week we will continue our Animal Biodiversity unit. We will be starting our researching centers this week. We will have a Chromebook center to learn about animals and how they are classified, a book center for note-taking, a sorting center where they will sort animals into groups, an engineering center where they will create a birdhouse for a mystery bird (taking into account the unique features of the bird), and an art center where students will explore deep sea animals and learn more about how they have adapted to survive in deep dark ocean!
